3 Steps for Mindful Decluttering: Self-Care Edition

Updated: Jun 25

Self-care should be the priority on your list and what I love to do is a total declutter of my bathroom within the first weeks of the New Year. It is incredible how much we tend to accumulate in a whole year in that little space but it is the perfect space to start your decluttering journey all by yourself.

Last year allowed you to try and find the best options that suit your skin or hair. It is probable that with that learning process your bathroom space is a little overcrowded and a mindful decluttering will be a great opportunity to tackle the area and say goodbye to the ones that have not worked with you.

Ready for a mindful decluttering and do a self-care edition? As you open the door or drawer from your cabinet you will encounter a bunch of body lotions, body scrubs, multiple shampoos or conditioners, facials, face masks, or unused skincare. Let's tackle this area in 3 simple steps:

  • SORT: Take every item out and start the sorting process by remembering when was the last time you used it, did you liked it, is it a to-go item every week and how long since you bought it. For items that you can't answer these questions send them to a different pile and get a garbage bag ready.

  • DECLUTTER: For items that you can't answer these questions send them to a different pile and get a garbage bag ready. Beforehand, I'm telling is going to be hard because your just-in-case mindset will come to you, but be decisive if it didn't work for you the first time what makes you think it is going to work this time?

  • ORGANIZE: You made it! You sort and declutter, now you are ready to wipe your surfaces and give them a refreshed look. Be creative and make it super convenient for you to have access to every single item daily.

Incredibly for me, one of the biggest clutter catchers in my bathroom has been trying all kinds of brands of long-lasting promising nail polishes. Luckily, after many years, I can successfully say that I have found my easy-to-go nail care routine. Olive and June have broken my expectations on how easy it is to have a salon care manicure at home but most importantly is that they are truly long-lasting for my hard-working hands. That was my selling point and that gave me the clarity to get rid of what didn't work for me for years. With that in mind, I was finally able to tackle my big collection of nail polishes kept in my bathroom and stick to only the brand that works for my lifestyle and also get rid of those "in case" colors that you buy for one-time use.

I encourage you to try and start your decluttering process in this area because you are looking at items that take care of yourself and your house. As you realize what your likes and dislikes are, you will be motivated to tackle another space in your house. Give it a try, it is a great opportunity to learn and make simple decisions to keep only what truly works for you.
